You know how things change. This year I've decided to sell my felt rolling machine.
I brought it out of storage recently - it's been in storage since Katie and Eric moved in and I got it out the other week and into a workspace - but it's not working for me.
It's a big step but it has served me well and it's time for it to move on to a new and busy home.
FeltCraft of American made it and I have the original paper work and a basic instruction sheet. According to Felt Craft website they now have a comprehensive book for sale.

Here's a bit of a rather poor video of me switching it on to show just how quiet and easy it is to operate. Phone me if any more information is required. There are several of these machines here and there in Britain- just ask around. Mine has 60 inch rollers so it does need a reasonable workspace. You can find my phone number on my website at www.IrresistibleFelt.com/contact.htm. It will be on eBay in the next few days under the title 'FeltCraft Wet Felt Rolling Machine'. I am only selling it through eBay and not privately because lots of people have already asked me about it and that is too stressful. It will be on eBay tonight, spread the word.... The sounds, the smells and the sights of ancient machinery, Garnets and that unmistakable smell of wet wool....
The teasel garden and boards and dust, dust, dust why do I love it so?

Jumping in the garnets and sliding down the chutes with my brother - I'm definitely feeling nostalgic today.
Armley is an interesting place not slick and sorted as you might expect an archeological exhibit to be but bits of rotting ironwork everywhere, like a giant's garbage pile. Cog wheeels measuring two metres across propped up in a corner out in the elements, rusting and rotting and gorgeous!
Lots of rain and a fair old amount of sun has meant the grass is waist high down in the orchard and everywhere is lush and vibrant. Mybe that's why I love greens so much. This hand dyed merino and silk is one of my very favourite combinations and this little vase is about 20 cms high. The silk hankies dyed in the same dye bath make the surface decoration more intriguing.
We are having great fun in the garden, but I get distracted from my feltmaking....
Tomorrow - Saturday 2nd July I am at the Mugdock Makkers Art and Craft Gallery doing a demonstration. I'll be there from one o'clock until 4 with some lovely fibres and a couple of projects to make. Call in and see me if you are around in the Courtyard at Mugdock Country Park near Milngavie (click here for map)
Now that the Forth Valley Open Studios is over I've a couple of things to take too. I made this bag with a technique I learned at Skeeby with Gladys Paulus. Iris thinks that the little seedy things look more like rabbit droppings and now I can't get that image out of my head!!! Oh Iris REALLY
I had made some gadget cases for iPads, phones and tablets but it seems that is not as popular as my bag and hat workshops which usually go down really well. It means I will have an extra day to make things for MiS. I've got the loan of a gadget to make handbag mirrors with and have been messing about with it - it's quite fun and the end product is rather attractive (useful too). It seems a good use of tartan remnants........ The Made in Stirling Shop now in Murray Place (opposite the Cafe Crema) has kept me busy since last summer. We are still open through the chilly months and even now in the quiet time there is a buzz from our regulars and always new visitors delighted to find such a unique place. It is a truly local shop - everything in it is made in the local community by amazing and talented artists and makers. I love the project because it's not just a shop it's a meeting place and a hub for information gathering and sharing and the most amazing support network for what can be quite a lonely lifestyle.Irresistible Felthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086270273609541951noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38618248.post-18728364018902588702013-10-07T08:24:00.000-07:002013-10-07T08:27:03.142-07:00Potty about tie-dyeingDallowgill Hardcore met at Skeeby in the last weekend of September. It's a fun group of serious feltmakers!!

We enjoy good food and a wee swallee; and talk and make felt into the early hours in the best of surroundings.

This time Thelma had brought a little bowl made with a double resist which she had made up from the verFilzt Und zugeNaht magazine that we all like catching up with - great journal BTW.
Well we all seemed to go mad - Iris made some pomegranates and wild Victorian extravaganza flowers, Jean made a Medieval Helmet for a miniature warrior and every colour, shape and size was produced in a frenzy of activity, well peppered with wine and cheese.

Back in the cold - well not so cold light of Craigton with builders, scaffolding and runaway hens I have managed to get back into the tie-dyeing of my lovely silk scarves. It's always a mini adventure tying them up and then seeing just what you've got when the process is complete. I'm sure I visit this enchanted forest in my dreams....
At present I am taking a little breath - well working at the Made in Stirling shop right in the centre of Stirling as well as at the Makkers in Mugdock Country Park so I'm keeping busy but not always on the 'making felt' front! Still teaching, though - I've a two day picture class through at Purely Patchwork in Linlithgow on the 8th and 10th July as well as four classes at the Peacock and the Tortoise at Perth this autumn - bags, hats, slippers and my famous flower corsages - so I've not exactly got my feet up.... oh, and I've been tie-dyeing too!
A wet and dismal start to the New Year has not dampened my enthusiasm for the exciting developments at Craigton. The house alterations have already started in the making of the new room in the roof void, and though I have had to yield up my studio to facilitate this I can still manage to create and make in the small 'dark room' down the stairs and will soon be back to full speed in my new studio.
The 'Made in Stirling' group had a good start in the period leading up to Christmas in a new venue at 3 King Street - right in the centre of the city. There seems to be a good mix of creatives and clients to move the project forward and the stuff in the Gallery/Shop is of superb standard and well worth a visit!Irresistible Felthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086270273609541951noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38618248.post-6354663126989910762012-10-21T14:17:00.000-07:002012-10-21T14:17:01.522-07:00Handmade in StirlingThere is an initiative in Stirling to promote handmade work of local people.
I have put some of my work in there and obviously am hoping that it will be well patronised in the period leading up to Christmas. There is a selection of modern and upbeat art and craft works and Paula who manages the shop has bags of enthusiasm.
Friday the 14th October is a red letter day for feltmaking at Craigton. June and Chris found their way from Perth into the rather muddy yard to sample the benefits of my first small group bag making class. My stocks of hand dyed tops were plundered to make some lovely bags and some to take away. The decorating is not complete, but the atmosphere is very positive and my studio is such a well lit and welcoming space. The bags were absolutely lovely and we managed to get them completed and even made some of my signature lilies which can be used to decorate the bag or to co-ordinate with an outfit as a corsage.Irresistible Felthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086270273609541951noreply@blogger.com0Dunblane, Perthshire FK15 0NN, UK56.2186752 -3.953326256.2164682 -3.9582617 56.2208822 -3.9483906999999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38618248.post-90704827826011454702011-10-02T14:01:00.000-07:002011-10-02T14:01:29.933-07:00Let there be stairs!I have tiles, I have stairs - life is good!
It's an exciting prospect to be able to have tailor made workshops and be able to spend time and share my enthusiasms in my new surroundings! I've put a list of the classes I'm offering on my website at:
http://www.irresistiblefelt.co.uk/ (click on Workshops in the menu bar)
The Perthshire Open Studios event was a good place to start publicising them and at the Victoria Hall Craft fair today I booked in another two friends who are coming together - to make bags!
I enjoy working in this way with all my favourite things at hand and the felt rolling machine will be in use on the two day tunic/jacket class - yea!

3rd to 11th September 2011

Not long to go now. We have all been busy getting venues and logistics in place for the annual opening of artists studios in Perthshire.
I show my work at Blackford, with Evelyn Ramsay at Sunart Studio. This is the third year we have done this and each year has brought new visitors and opportunities for us both.
As usual I am not as organised as I would like to be but, then, that is me - my brother would say 'You can't change the habits of a lifetime' but my work is definitely evolving. So much to do and so little time and so many options I just love it! Once the floor tiling is complete, what was once our lovely sitting room will be my permanent studio. The light is lovely and the space is great with plenty of space for my felt rolling machine. The floor will be tiled and so water won't be an issue. Craigton is somewhat overgrown at this time of year but the surroundings are great with the river and with a rub down with a Jungle Formula max strength cloth (free with every class :))the bugs keep their distance.
This is one of the hundreds of orchids growing at Craigton this year called a Common Spotted Orchid. Common or not they have made a brilliant display - just one of the thousand reasons I love Craigton.Irresistible Felthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086270273609541951noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38618248.post-72054408178592371872011-05-22T03:07:00.000-07:002011-05-22T13:42:12.404-07:00Hands up for Nuno Hats!I had a great day yesterday with the Edinburgh Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers who meet regularly at Craiglockhart Church. Originally I had been booked in to teach a nuno felt scarf class but then the subject was changed to hats. I love making nuno felt hats, well, lets be honest I like making all kinds of hats, in fact all kinds of felt!!
It was great to have a mix of abilities though everyone had made some felt at some time and so knew the basics.
Playing with the pattern and the different kinds of silk to create different effects brought out an array of styles and colours. My hand dyed fabrics and fibres went down a treat and the end results were not only eyecatching but most satisfying as everyone finished in good time and seemed happy with the results.
I'll photograph mine once it's dry and share it here.Irresistible Felthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086270273609541951noreply@blogger.com0
